2025-26 College Basketball Predictions: Win Totals & Projected Conference Standings

We run through our 2025-26 college basketball predictions, including season win totals, projected conference standings, and champion odds.

All projections update daily. We re-run our models each morning, which means values can shift a bit as new information rolls in and simulations introduce natural variance.

For reference, the figures in this post reflect the projections on October 31, 2025.

How We Build NCAA Basketball Predictions

When making college basketball projections ahead of the season, we mainly follow two steps:

Build preseason team ratings. We assign every Division I team a predictive rating that reflects expected performance for 2025–26.
Simulate the season. We model every game on the 2025–26 schedule, then run thousands of full-season simulations and average the results.

From this process, we produce the key outputs summarized in the conference tables below:

Odds to win the conference regular season
Odds to win the conference tournament

Before diving into each conference, here are the top highlights from the 2025–26 projections.

NCAAB Prediction Highlights: Conference Winner Odds

Below are our projected regular-season winners for all conferences with at least one at-large bid in last year’s NCAA tournament, along with their odds of winning the conference title:

ACC: Duke (37%)
Big 12: Houston (45%)
Big East: Connecticut (37%)
Big Ten: Purdue (37%)
Mountain West: San Diego State (28%)
SEC: Florida (19%)
WCC: Gonzaga (64%)

Note: Numbers as of Saturday, Nov. 1. We run simulations daily, so the numbers may differ slightly from the tables below. You can always find the most up-to-date numbers here.

Some observations here:

Last season, we projected 2.5 of the favorites from these seven conferences to actually win (based on adding up our win odds for each). The actual number was two (Duke and Houston), as Gonzaga was surprised, and Saint Mary’s ended up winning the WCC.
We project a similar outcome this year, with 2.61 teams expected to secure their regular-season titles from the above group. Gonzaga again enters the season as the biggest favorite, while Houston is the biggest favorite among the power conference schools.
Florida, the defending champ, has the smallest odds of any of these favorites, in a tough SEC with several contenders.
Even though only two of our favorites last year actually won, five of the seven conferences have the same preseason favorite as a year ago, with only the SEC and Mountain West changing.

Top Mid-Major Conference Favorites

Last season, only a few favorites from the mid-majors and other one-bid leagues, including Memphis in the AAC, actually won their conferences. Still, the champions came from the teams we rated most likely, as Grand Canyon, McNeese State, and High Point each had at least a 49% conference title probability.

This year looks even murkier. For context, we had six mid-major teams at 40% or higher to win their leagues last season. This year, it is only three:

Yale (57% to win Ivy League)
VCU (41% to win Atlantic 10)
Norfolk State (40% to win MEAC)

Additional notes:

Scheduled games only: Preseason win-loss projections include opponents that are already set. Early-season tournaments with TBD opponents aren’t counted.
Schedule changes: Weather and other factors can still alter schedules. If games move or are canceled, projected records may differ slightly from what’s ultimately played. This post won’t be updated, so see our college basketball projections pages for the latest numbers.
Daily variance: During the preseason, our simulations are re-run every day. Small differences between this post and the TeamRankings or BetIQ projections are normal.
