The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers came into the season with similar expectations, and they were the co-favorites to win the NFC West.

The Rams have largely lived up to expectations, but the 49ers have disappointed again, starting 3-5.

On Monday Night Football, San Francisco has a chance to turn its season around and jump right into the wild-card mix in the NFC. Meanwhile, the Rams can move into a tie for first place in the NFC West with a win.

Last season, the Niners beat the Rams twice in an otherwise poor year. Can they continue that streak Monday?

The 49ers are one of our upset picks for this week. While the line has dropped another half-point, we are still taking San Francisco above the field goal.

The Niners have been inconsistent over the past two years, but they’ve actually been better in the underdog role (see the betting trends section below).

The Rams’ added Odell Beckham Jr. last week, which should help them overcome the loss of WR Robert Woods in the longer term. But until Beckham gets up to speed, not having Woods will be a big blow for the Los Angeles offense.
