These are our fantasy football kicker projections for the 2023 NFL season. They include projecting field goals made, field goals attempted, and extra points made.
Our 2023 fantasy football kicker projections are largely built on the team model projections and stats. That is, we are not basing it on individual characteristics like age and past performance. The exception to that is the previous year’s kicking performance, and overall team scoring, are both inputs that are part of the team model.
To build our team projections, we used sports betting information such as the preseason over/under win totals for each team, as well as the passing and rushing stats from the previous year (and kicking stats). You can see a fuller explanation here.
One thing to note with our fantasy football kicking projections, because they are built on the team models, is that we do not allocate a percentage likelihood that a kicker will win the job. Most teams end up only having one kicker handling kicks in the regular season, but they may have several competing in camp. If you are drafting early, then, before teams have made final roster decisions, you should stick to the established names that seem more certain to have the job.
For now, we are predicting the stats for 32 kickers, one for each team (as long as the team currently has a kicker on the roster).
We will update the kicker information if a different kicker wins the job, and you could very well find value late in a draft by finding a great team situation, with a relatively unknown kicker, who is far down the average draft position in many leagues.
Three years ago, we identified Younghoe Koo as a top kicker option based on our models, even though he was being drafted late, and he ended up leading the NFL in made field goals in 2020. Two years, we had Greg Joseph of Minnesota as a sleeper value that we ranked highly, and he finished 5th in field goals made.
Greg Zuerlein, NY Jets. The veteran isn't going very highly in preliminary rankings, but our models show the Jets to have the potential to rank highly in field goal points with the change to Aaron Rodgers at QB.
Jason Myers, Seattle. Myers tied for the second-most field goals made last year, behind only Justin Tucker, but maybe isn't the household name. But he's been a good kicker (86% for his career) and the Seahawks' offense added WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba to an explosive receiving corp and should be a top offense.
